Vicarage St Redevelopment

Work is well and truely underway with the redevelopment of our Vicarage Street site. As you can see from this picture the old reprographics building has been demolished and all the work was captured with the help of time lapse photography.

The work here and on the otherside of the building (the hall of residence and the chaplaincy) is part of the University's £70m redevelopment of facilities at the Luton campus. Soon the new student centre will rise up to fill the gap between Vicarage Street and Park Square. The centre will bring all the University's student support services, including the Students' Union, under one roof and is expected to be completed in academic year 2010-11.

The building will be the home of all student-facing activities and services for students on the Luton campus, including:

  • Reception desk.
  • 240-seat bookable lecture theatre, available externally for conferences and events.
  • Exhibition space for student displays etc.
  • Informal learning spaces for our students.
  • Students’ Union support services, executive offices and bar.
  • Restaurant and cafĂ©.
  • Senior Management Team offices.
But as yet the new building has to get a name, which is where you can help. Let me know of your, appropriate, suggestions.
