In an exciting and often tense cup final Luton beat Scunthorpe 3-2 after extra time. On a day where half the population of the town appeared to descend on Wembley, Luton overcame their more lofty opponents and sparked wild celebration from their 40 000 plus fans. After what might be their last Wembley appearance for some time the team paraded the Johnstone's Paint trophy in front of a delight stadium. It is a measure of the level of support in this troubled season that Luton sold so many tickets. The walkways to the ground were a sea of orange and the only empty seats were at the Scunthorpe end.
The BBC described the game as the best game so far at the new Wembley. To the small group I went with - including 4 alumni - it was simply a great day and we can say, 'I was there.'
